I was sick most of last week so there's not as many wine reviews in the last 2 weeks. (Please view the newsletter in a web browser to see the Delectable links.)

To be sure, beer is usually the best pairing for pizza, especially on a hot Houston summer afternoon. However, we were grabbing dinner with some close friends and we all wanted a nice bottle. The acid in this cool-climate Chardonnay plus the touch of oak paired especially nicely with a prosciutto and mushroom NY-style pizza at this restaurant. We ordered the crust a little bit crispy and the prosciutto got crunchy and browned on the edges. This wine also drove the conversation to a wine country trip to California, hopefully Santa Barbara County later this year.

My wine buddies that work in the industry tell me Marqués de Cáceres has a great reputation for quality at higher volumes and this bottle helped prove that. If you lean towards Sauvignon Blanc for a seafood pairing, try an Albariño instead. Susie and Peter (featured in my favorite wine podcast post) explored this region in-depth with a special two part episode series.
